May Training
Members attending the May training heard an interesting talk by Barbara Moss from St.John the Divine Church, Croydon. Her topic was ‘Meals on the Green’.
Croydon Council for many years had a kiosk in Main Street which was available to local organisations for fund raising. Users included a group which served hot soup and food to the needy. When the kiosk was closed down it was suggested that St. Johns being on the opposite side of the railway station and close to public transport was the obvious venue to keep the service going.
At present, a roster of 30 volunteers from several churches cook and serve a three course meal four nights each week, usually to between 15 and 40 people. The meals are free and the food is donated by the churches involved.
Lists of times and days for these free meals, and others which are available in the area, can be obtained from the Ringwood and Croydon offices.
